Non-destructive-testing tools allow in-field blade evaluation, decreasing down time
After successful field trials, Dantec Dynamics is releasing a new ruggedized shearography system for up-tower inspection. Shearography is an optical inspection technique to find sub-surface defects in material such as wind turbine blades. In conjunction with Rope Partner, the leader in rope access services in the wind-energy industry, the new capability will enable detection of defects, including wrinkling, up-tower across large areas while keeping access cost to a minimum. Minor defects can often lead to greater damage and can ultimately lead to blade failure, resulting in expensive replacement cost and lost production. No surface preparation is required and inspection-coverage rates of more than 150 sq ft. per hour can be achieved.
“There is no doubt that this collaboration, offering state-of-the-art technology coupled with fast reaction times and low access costs, adds high value to inspections from the customer’s perspective,”
