Rope Partner recently announced a new partnership with Scottish firm Edge Solutions, to install the new “Armour Edge” protection for turbine blades – with a predicted lifespan of more than 20 years. Lucas Llado, Vice President of Business Development at Rope Partner and David Urch, Managing Director at Edge Solutions sat down for a Q&A with Wind Systems Magazine to discuss the origins of this partnership, the benefits of Armour Edge protection for turbine blades and the deployment of this innovative technology to the U.S. wind industry.

The Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program has certified Rope Partner as a Santa Cruz Green Business. After successful field trials, Dantec Dynamics is releasing a new ruggedized shearography system for up-tower inspection. Shearography is an optical inspection technique to find sub-surface defects in material such as wind turbine blades. In conjunction with Rope Partner, the leader in rope access services in the wind-energy industry, the new capability will enable detection of defects, including wrinkling, up-tower across large areas while keeping access cost to a minimum.

HEMPEL USA Inc. and Rope Partner, Inc. — have partnered to provide full-service maintenance to the wind turbine market for infield tower coating repair and maintenance.

Rope Partner has partnered with 3M to conduct an in-field study on the effects of leading edge wind turbine blade damage. The purpose of the yearlong study is to quantify the reduction in overall wind turbine output due to leading edge erosion.
